This is a photo I took in the Rostov Veliky; here, not only window frames and a plank under the cornice, but also small windows at the very bottom of the picture certainly deserve special consideration.
They have a kind of a shutting plate moving along the rails. And this is one of the oldest types of windows survived up till now. These days, it is used mostly for the ventilation of the semi-basement, but in the past they well could had been the main windows of utility structures.
